From 19 years late for my first adjustment to pediatric chiropractor, this is my story!

Since I firmly believe I was 19 years late for my first adjustment I have been on a mission ever since to make sure other kids are not. This is why as a pediatric chiropractor one of my jobs is to teach parents so they know their options.

19 years late may seem a bit dramatic right?  Well let me give you the back story.  I had a fairly “typical” childhood as far as my health was concerned.  Unfortunately typical is not normal and certainly not ideal these days.

My childhood health

When I was very young I had a lot of ear infections.  What do most people do for ear infections?  That’s right, take some antibiotics.  By the time I was in elementary school I started having strep throat fairly often.  Now fortunately they didn’t do the common remedy of removing my tonsils but instead prescribed more antibiotics.  When I was in middle school I had headaches just about daily.  For these I took all the over the counter pain killers (Tylenol, Advil, whatever).  By the time I was in high school I was having serious stomach issues.  It seemed that absolutely anything I ate made me sick and even then it could be totally sporadic.  After various specialists, doctors and appointments my parents took me to a Naturopath.  Here I at least learned to avoid certain foods which did seem to help.  Then I was off to college.   My freshman year of college I caught every bug and cootie going around.  Not only did I catch them but it seemed to take me forever to fight them off.

In chiropractic we talk a lot about Innate intelligence or the doctor on the inside, but also that voice within.  Fortunately I had been listening to my Innate since I was a child.  At about five years old I started saying I wanted to be a chiropractor when I grew up.  I had never been to a chiropractor and truthfully had absolutely no idea what a chiropractor did, but none the less I stayed the course.  I applied to college in the “pre-chiropractic” program.  Second semester of my freshman year I decided it was about time I figured out what the heck chiropractic actually was.  I started looking for jobs in offices near school.  Fortunately I got a job working for a great pediatric chiropractor.  He had a huge practice taking care of a lot of families and I instantly knew this was for me!

My Chiropractic Experience

First step was for me to start care.  He did scans, took x-rays and I started getting adjusted.  To say that my experience was anything short of miraculous would be an understatement. My entire health started to change right from the beginning and continued to change and improve to the point where now I rarely get more then a booger, I haven’t taken a single medication prescribed or over the counter since my freshman year in college, I have never had a sick day and I eat what I want when I want with no fear or concern.

Once I realized what a profound impact chiropractic care had on my life and my health I knew I couldn’t keep it a secret from other families struggling to find answers for their children.  My parents had no idea about chiropractic for kids back then. In our town the chiropractor was for back issues not for children. My parents did everything they knew about for me, even a naturopath back then was “out there”.   Even to this day my parents tell everyone and anyone with a sick child who will listen, “Have you taken them to a pediatric chiropractor?”

My Journey as a pediatric chiropractor

So at that point I swore to never let another kid be 19 years late for their first adjustment if I could help it.  I started focusing my studies on pediatric care. Post graduate I took advanced classes on prenatal care, because let’s face it a child’s health really begins at conception.  I am passionate about seeing our community become stronger and healthier and allowing children to express their God given potential to be their absolute best.  I absolutely LOVE what I do and feel so incredibly blessed to have kept listening to that little voice inside saying “be a chiropractor”.

But here’s the beauty of the situation, you don’t even need to be sick to get checked and adjusted.  Like I said, I’ve been in practice 15 years now and never get sick but I still get checked each week to make sure my nervous system is firing at 100% so I can perform at my best!

If you or your family are struggling with a health issue or just know you could be functioning better, let’s have a conversation.  I’d love to teach you how it works and why it works.  If you aren’t local but looking for help, reach out.  I’ll help you find a pediatric chiropractor who I would send my own family to.  No one else needs to say, “I was 19 years late for my first adjustment” or even one year late for that matter.
